As a leader on and off the court, Shane Battier firmly believes that the future of our youth rests in higher education. The Battier Take Charge Foundation, established by Shane and Heidi, is dedicated to providing resources for the development and education of underserved youth and teens. With initial focus in Houston, Memphis, and Detroit, the Battiers' charge is to encourage and inspire a new generation of potential leaders through educational opportunities and the cultivation of effective leadership skills
Philanthropic Programs The Battiers' continue to support several organizations focused on education and youth including:
- Stax Music Academy (Memphis)
- The Bob Ufer Scholarship Fund (Ann Arbor, MI)
- Horizons Upward Bound (Bloomfield Hills, MI)
- The Boys and Girls Country (Houston)
- The Boys and Girls Clubs of Greater Houston (Houston)
The Battier Take Charge Scholarship Program awards four-year college scholarships to deserving young leaders from the greater Detroit and Houston areas. In partnership with The Boys and Girls Club of Greater Houston in 2010, the Battiers' will provide at-risk students facing economic hardship an opportunity to continue their education at the college or university of their choice. Shane and Heidi believe that the scholarship program will create greater opportunities for children to improve and impact their own destiny.
